CASE STUDY: Reviews Widget
While there are so many different ways to rate a product or a service, still many users do not submit a feedback. In this case study I would like to design an experience that users can submit positive comments and constructive suggestions that will benefit both the business and the user.
There are so many different designs for product or service review, some provide it in the same website and some in other competitor analysis web or app. Here are some screen shots for some online stores.
Encourage your customers to leave reviews and feedback, this will help you build a credible online reputation. Customers will make purchases quickly from a business that has positive reviews. People don’t just check the Facebook page, they tend to look at objective third-party websites for reviews of the business as well. About 88% of customers say that they read reviews in order to determine the quality of products and businesses. Also, having your own blog helps as well. According to reports, about 13% buyers are influenced to buy a product after reading a blog.
02 USER INTERVIEW
In order to get into the appropriate mindset as well as to understand the user needs, I interviewed some of my friends who often buy online products.
Izi, 29, Accountent
I buy often online because it is easier for me.
I use online services also because they cost me less money.
Most of my free time I like to be at home not shopping in stores, and online there are much more options.
I only leave a comment if I am not satisfied of the product.
I don't comment or leave review because it take time and sometimes it is a hard process and I think no one reads it.
Anna, 24, Student
I buy often online because I can take my time and I can order anytime.
I can find all what I am looking for.
I always leave comments and reviews good and bad.
I have a hard time finding an honest review, or read all reviews.
Leaving a review is not always simple, sometime I skip the process.
Peter, 48, Online business owner
I think one day all most of the stores will online.
It cost less to sell online than to hold on a real store.
It is easy, manageable and you can reach more customers.
Good reviews can encourage more people to trust you.
Reviews can not be always true.
03 DEFINED THE PROBLEM
After analyzing the interview data I was able to define most of the user problems.
- User not motivated to submit a review.
- Process of submitting a review sometimes is hard.
- Not all users think reviews are important.
- Owners fear bad reviews.
- Reviews can be too long and not relevant.
- Most online reviews are not easy to follow.
To start working on a submit review widget I think I need to add a small twist to make it more relevant and user friendly for users who submit and readers. Also adding a motive for users to submit reviews can be helping both the user and the business. Such as if a user submit a review, the user will get a 10% discount (this could be optional) on the next purchase. This way users can enjoy a discount next time they buy and the business will sell more and will collect a great deal of data that can be used to improve the service or the product in case if there is bad reviews.
. Easy to submit . Motive . Useful
User process of submitting a review after purchase.
After online purchase users receive an email with verification of the purchase with an option to rate the product and the purchase experience, depending on what the user purchases. In our scenario the user will recieve an email after reciving the product to have the chance to give a positive or negative feedback.
